eBook Dynasty: For Artists
Supporting Artists for the Publishing Industry
We understand the important roles artists play in the publishing industry. Without artists -- from translators to editors and proofreaders, from cover designers to illustrators, from ghostwriters to reviewers, and from publicists to social media campaigners -- books cannot exist.
eBook Dynasty assists aspiring, emerging and established artists to promote their arts and utilise their skills in the following two ways:
- We offer two online courses specifically designed to empower artists with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote themselves, and to work with authors in their exploration of global markets.
- We are building an online registry for artists who are interested in building an online presence to showcase their expertise.
Please note: While the aforementioned online courses are related to translation as a profession, the principles apply to other fields as well. You can also Contact Us if you are interested in other aspects of the publishing industry.
"Introduction to Translation" Online Course
Translation is arguably the highest form of cross-cultural communications. It is also an art, as long as one can master the craft -- that is, to convey an author's "voice" accurately, fluently and, most importantly, gracefully.
In this online course, the instructor, Dr Christine Yunn-Yu Sun, will utilise her 25 years of experience as a professional translator to illustrate the importance and impact of translation as a profession. The self-paced course consists of six one-hour online sessions, using text-and-image-oriented web pages and YouTube videos, with written assignments and discussions via email.
Real examples and anecdotes from a wide range of translation projects are used to explain the many "tricks of the trade". Participants will have ample opportunity to try their hands on translating various short texts from English to a language of their choice. They will also discuss the challenges and triumphs in capturing and conveying an author's "voice", how to manage workload, contracts and payments, how to pursue professional development opportunities, and how to work with traditional publishers as well as independent published authors.
This course will benefit aspiring, emerging and established translators. For more details, please see the "Introduction to Translation" Online Course.
"Working with/as a Professional Translator to Explore Global Markets" Online Course
If you cherish and celebrate the Power of Words, then it is important to understand how words are transformed and given new life from one culture to another. Furthermore, as you embark on a journey to explore global markets -- either as an independent publisher or represented by your literary agent or publisher -- it is essential to engage a professional translator who can adequately convey your "voice".
In this online course, the instructor, Dr Christine Yunn-Yu Sun, will utilise her 25 years of experience as a professional translator, as well as 10 years of experience as an independent publisher of digital and print books in English and Chinese languages, to explain the importance of establishing a coherent and courteous working relationship among the author, the translator, and the publisher.
The self-paced course consists of six one-hour online sessions, using text-and-image-oriented web pages and YouTube videos, with written assignments and discussions via email.
Real examples and anecdotes from a wide range of cross-cultural publishing projects are used to illustrate the importance of working with professional translators in order to engage global markets. Participants will have ample opportunity to discuss issues such as market choices, communication and marketing strategies, how to measure success and sustainability, and editing vs censorship.
This course will benefit both traditionally and independently published authors, as well as aspiring and emerging authors and translators. For more details, please see the "Working with/as a Professional Translator to Explore Global Markets" Online Course.
